Die Ibadiya in der islamischen Häresiographie

Abstract :

Until today the Ibadites never want to be brought into connection with the Kharidjites although the emergence of the Ibadiya can be regarded in several ways as a product of the movement of the Kharidjites in early islamic times. Both, Ibadite scholars and modern authors are concerned with a belated interpretation of the historic events in a way to be considered as backward projections.

It is usually assumed that the muslim historians and heresiographers bear the responsibility for this distortion of Ibadite history. In this article shall be evaluated from a critical point of view how muslim heresiographers define the Ibadiya and how they relate to its teachings and religious principles. Some characteristics of the muslim heresiographies will be discussed at first.
